BarCamp: a Real Estate industry un-conference
The London based wing of Nestoria Australia loves a good BarCamp. Unfortunately we won't be able to make the real estate industry specific BarCamp that's coming up in Sydney on the 24th of May, but that doesn't mean that we're not keen to live it vicariously. And to recommend it to people who haven't been to anything like it before.
BarCamps started off as tech events, they're like conferences, but less formal and with more workshops and open forum type events than you might find at a regular conference. One of the key differences is that the sessions aren't planned out before hand – when you register you can volunteer to facilitate a session, or not. Then, when all the volunteers have volunteered and all the attendees have made their interests known, a schedule is made up of the details. It's not just the facilitators who are giving the sessions though, these are group lead opportunities. So if you're worried that the impromptu nature of the event's structure might lead to disappointing content then it's up to you to attend and help steer the conversation towards what you're interested in learning about. BarCamp is a prime example of an experience that the more you put into it the more you'll get out of it. And it's free so the only thing you're investing is your time. And the best way to makes sure that you glean as much from BarCamp as you can is to volunteer to facilitate a session yourself. Then you'll know there will be a corner of the un-conference where you can talk about technology, data freedom, mortgage products, video and photography, social media, or whatever else real estate related that's been on your mind recently. The first RE Bar Camp will be held at 13 Lime Street, King Street Wharf, 2000. Doors open from 10am. Register here.
